| Rukinga Wildlife Sanctuary
Wildlife Works' Rukinga Wildlife Sanctuary is proof positive that Consumer Powered Conservationsm works.
But not so long ago, the 80,000 acres we now know as Rukinga sat on the brink of disaster.

For years, this land was home to a slowly failing cattle ranch, but the wildlife saw it as a passageway between Tsavo East and Tsavo West national parks - the largest protected lands in Kenya.
By the time we encountered Rukinga in 1998, the local community and the wildlife were at odds. Rukinga was a bruised, balding land, barren of wildlife but overflowing with despair. Cattle had grazed the fields into dust, poachers slipped on and off the ranch with ease, and squatters settled in, farming and building mud-and-thatch huts along the ranch's critical rainwater basin.
Like an alarm bell, we heard Rukinga's warning loud and clear: human activities were destroying this key migration corridor, and time was running out.
Today, thanks to Consumer Powered Conservationsm, we're building a brighter future for Rukinga's wildlife, its land and the nearby communities.
