WHAT IS A FOREST CARBON CREDIT AND DOES IT ACTUALLY WORK?

Forest carbon credits pay for forest protection and stop carbon emissions caused by deforestation. They work because they pay forest communities to protect forests that would otherwise be destroyed. It makes conservation financially viable, turning the standing forest into a livelihood, not a commodity to extract. Forest carbon credits fund rangers, community health clinics, schools, and sustainable livelihoods that make long-term conservation possible.

Wildlife Works develops and manages REDD+ forest carbon projects (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation) in direct partnership with local communities and governments. Every credit is independently verified to international standards and permanently retired when you purchase it—meaning it's tied to real protection of a real place, and can never be counted twice. Tying the impact to carbon emissions gives everyone a measurement tool to track and set global decarbonization goals.

When you buy a credit, you're slowing global warming and protecting the very forests that protect you.

What PlanetHAUS is doing to invest in a better tomorrow

To extend their impact beyond its walls at San Francisco Climate Week and into global climate action, PlanetHAUS is funding forest protection through Wildlife Works Forest Carbon Credits—paying forest guardians for their conservation work.

During SF Climate Week, we're inviting everyone who walks through this space to join that act of care.

One credit. Ten dollars. A forest that keeps standing because you chose to act.

(1 credit = ½ tonne of CO₂ emissions from deforestation stopped)

Your purchase directly funds community-led forest conservation,

verified to international standards and permanently retired.

THEIR SOLUTION IS OUR SOLUTION

For nearly 30 years, Wildlife Works has built a conservation model around a simple truth: forests survive when the communities living alongside them can fund their own solutions to protect them.

In places like the Kasigau Corridor in Kenya—one of Africa's most biodiverse landscapes—Wildlife Works partners with local communities to sustain livelihoods rooted in conservation. The result: forests protected, wildlife preserved, and communities with a real stake in keeping it that way. Learn more about our projects.

WHY FORESTS? WHY NOW?

Forests are the planet's life-support system. They regulate rainfall, cool temperatures, shelter more than half of all species on Earth, and store enormous amounts of carbon that, if released, would dramatically accelerate climate change.

And yet, every minute, forests are cleared for agriculture, logging, and development. When forests fall, that stored carbon is released, communities lose their livelihoods, and species lose their homes, forever.

Protecting the forests that still stand is one of the fastest, most effective climate actions available to us today. The missing piece isn't technology—it's funding for the people on the ground already doing the work for the rest of us.
