Wildlife Works Carbon LLC (WWC)

Wildlife Works is an international conservation company whose mission is to stop deforestation by providing alternative income streams to forest communities. With offices and employees in 10 countries and growing, Wildlife Works is looking to fill this newly created role that will report directly to the Wildlife Works Carbon LLC Finance Director.   The senior accountant will be responsible for the monthly close process, consolidation and reconciliation accounting within The Wildlife Works Carbon domestic and international companies, and provide consolidated information to the company management team, the company Management Committee (Board), investors, and major customers. 

Experience with managing domestic and international intercompany close processes, ability to work autonomously but also be part of a team, demonstrated ability to perform high level financial reporting and accounting functions, and reporting results to leadership will make a candidate successful in this role.

Job Responsibilities

  • Acts in a controller capacity to lead and support the month, quarter and year-end financial closing and reporting processes for WWC domestic and international companies to ensure financial results are reported timely and accurately

    • Completes quarterly and annual consolidation procedures

    • Prepares monthly elimination, adjusting and recurring journal entries

    • Oversees balance sheet reconciliations such as inventory and intercompany cash transfers

    • Responsible for performing more complex accounting including but not limited to, Investment in Subsidiaries, partnership accounting, equity investments and investor and inventory financing

  • Updates and maintains the financial accounting, guidelines, policies and procedures

    • Ensures compliance with company policies, internal controls, GAAP and IFRS

    • Prepares documentation for monitoring and measuring compliance against company financial policies and procedures as required

  • Supports the year-end financial audit process including preparation of audit schedules

    • Research and compile documentation for audit sampling requests for US parent company as well as international subsidiaries for support of US parent entity audit under GAAP

    • Understand, communicate and account for differences between GAAP and IFRS where required

  • Recommends improvements to WWC monthly close process

    • Develops more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy and streamlining the monthly close process and financial reporting functions across all companies

    • Works collaboratively with US and international accounting staff to improve processes

  • Contributes to the further development of the dashboard reporting with KPIs and other relevant and robust financial reporting metrics

  • May assist the Finance Director in preparing the annual budget and monthly forecasts

  • Works collaboratively across, communicates with, supports and provides data to various WWC corporate departments as well as international offices.  This includes work with WWC Carbon Development group, WWC Logistics (Australia), Asia and Latin America leads, DRC, Kenya, and Colombia country directors.  This requires a flexible work schedule to accommodate communication or conversations across the different time zones.

  • Other duties and special projects as assigned by the Finance Director as WWC grows

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related degree, CPA required

  • A candidate may have 4-6 years of experience in a public accounting firm or equivalent experience to have an understanding and ability to perform monthly close and consolidations duties – see below:

    • Experience with consolidations and reconciliations of US companies with international subsidiaries, Joint Ventures and international investments

    • Proven knowledge of GAAP accounting principles, practices, and standards, IFRS a plus

    • Audit experience a plus

  • Intermediate to advanced computers skills, especially MS Excel

  • Ability to act and operate independently with minimal daily direction from manager to accomplish objectives initiative within an environment that values transparency and accountability.

  • Experience working in a culturally diverse, international growth environment

  • High attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to prioritize and organize workload independently

  • Any or all of the following - US partnership accounting experience, experience with QuickBooks Online or Sage, proficiency in French and/or Spanish - are a plus.

  • Familiarity with partnership tax returns and issues desired
