Nepal Border Region
In the foothills of the Eastern Himalaya, along the border between Nepal and India, is the Eastern Himalayan broadleaf and conifer forest, the most underrepresented forest type in NepalÕs protected area system.
Wildlife Works is exploring the creation of a corridor linking several existing protected areas to create an 11,500-km2 area important for focal species such as the Red Panda (Ailurus fulgens), Clouded Leopard (Neofelis nebulosa), Bengal Tiger (Panthera tigris), and Himalayan Thar (Hemitragus jemlahicus).
There is an existing bio-dynamic/organic cotton farming project in NE India, and we are studying sourcing our organic cotton for our Kenyan facility from there. This would launch our economic presence in the region, allowing us to introduce more local economic development in Nepal, and would help to stall or stop the loss of forest and forest species to firewood, grazing, poaching, timber and other threats. |
