The Wildlife Works' Rukinga Sanctuary is home to Maasai Giraffe, one of three distinct giraffe subspecies surviving today. The world's tallest animal, they have a graceful, dreamlike gait as they move back and forth through the Sanctuary in search of choice new Acacia leaves. Giraffes have very few natural enemies, as one kick from those long legs can quickly dispatch a careless lion. Unfortunately, they have no defense against wire snares, and they are often poached for the commercial bushmeat market.
