Makamba is a town just outside the Gombe Stream Game Reserve, in Tanzania, where Jane Goodall began her groundbreaking research on these intelligent creatures. Today, logging activities and the growing bushmeat trade threaten all remaining wild chimps, including the last of Gombe's chimps, whose numbers have dwindled to about 100.
