Polar Bears were once the kings of an enormous snowy kingdom, but global warming trends are rapidly melting their Arctic habitat. Unfortunately, melting ice isn't the only threat to these mighty carnivores; chemical pollutants contaminate their food chain and sport hunting puts their lives in precarious balance. Latest estimates peg total polar bear population at around 20,000. Covered in a water-repellant white coat, these bears have demonstrated a remarkable ability to adapt to their habitat. They grow up to nine feet long, and tip the scales at a whopping 1,400 pounds! One of the best places to see polar bears is in Churchill, Manitoba.
