our mission
Meet the women who make your products.

Here are a few of the stories of the women who make your products in our Ecofactory at our Rukinga sanctuary in Kenya. Our story is really their story. They become our champions in their community, asking their friends and families to forego poaching to protect their jobs, and the independence it gives them.

Edita Vita Mkala, 28 years
My name is Edita. I am married with 2 girls - 5years and 3 years old and expecting another next year 2006, January.

My husband is a matatu (Passenger Van) driver on the Mombasa – Wundanyi route. I heard about Wildlife Works from one of the ladies that were working at the factory. I applied for the job and got employed in 2002. Before then I use to make clothes on request. This brought in very little income. My Job at Wildlife Works helps me supplement my husband’s income. We have managed to build our own house. We have also built a house to rent out. I am able to get cooperative loan, which helps many of us, ladies to have development projects at home. The experience at Wildlife Works has improved my knowledge in sewing machine use and on making different designs. I wish we would get more work so that more of us can get some work and income to fend for our families.
